LINKS WITH ACTION!
The current Franciscan International site is suggesting that we should pray for the people of Haiti and leads directly to the Taize site . If you visit the Taize site they are offering a series of prayers for Haiti and are suggesting that we make a practice of praying for Haiti on the 12th day of each month for the next 12 months as the earthquake struck on the 12th of January.
Progressio's website points out that they are in Haiti to rebuild and offer support in the long term but at the moment there is still a great need for immediate help with food and shelter. They are one of a number of leading Catholic agency still asking for help.
Caritas International is both calling for aid and offering information on the current situation. They also have a page of prayers for Haiti which you may want to visit at www.caritas.org Their Peace and Reconciliation page also offers an update on the situations in Gaza, Congo and Uganda. The Peacebuilding manual on their website has many ideas which might be useful in our fraternities or parishes.
The National Justice and Peace Network are asking for old mobile phones. For further information log onto www.justice-and-peace.envirocharities.com
They are also running a campaign at the moment to end child detention in the detention centres in the UK at the moment .They are asking us to write to our MPs about this. There is a model letter on their website at
www.ecdn.org They also offer access to a number of articles published recently in the national press on their website.
The following links are gleaned from a list supplied by Christian Solidarity Worldwide. You may wish to pray for them. They suggest writing to any of these detainees, who are imprisoned for religious reasons, to let them know that you are supporting them.
This is possibly something that more infirm members of fraternities could easily be involved in.

Another site of interest is www.getfair.org.uk which offers suggestions from Westminster diocese amongst others on who we should email or write to about poverty in Britain today.
